How To Get Rid Of Gophers – The Never Ending Saga

I have lived with the frustration of gophers in my garden and it wasn’t until I found someone that had done all the research for me that I found a solution that worked for me. When a gopher is burrowing under your garden, there is more than just superficial damage occurring. While gophers don’t eat the roots of plants, their digging pulls up the roots and exposes to them to external damage. The digging can also cause rocks to be exposed and that can be damaging to any garden machinery you may be using. Also, the piles of dirt that accumulate at the entrance to their holes, are fresh soil for weeds to take root.
Here’s a small list of some of the methods you can try to get rid of gophers: *Trapping – this is the most common but may require a bit of practice in order to get it right. *Exclusion – where you fence off a particular are of your garden that you want to make sure the gophers can’t get into. Use small mesh fencing or plastic netting. *Flooding – this has limited success as the gophers can retreat to an area of the burrows and then close off the tunnels. *Gassing – same as above *Poison pellets – easy to use but care must be taken regarding other animals such as pet dogs or cats. *Repellents – synthetic predator odors
